In Upcoming Council News:
Council Goal Setting. Done every two years, it's slated for Sept. 24 and 25th, of this year. The Council will spend two days updating its goals for the City. Input from the public is not only welcome, it's actively solicited. I hope you will have the time to add your views.
From the City's Website:
The Champaign City Council is beginning the process of establishing goals for the City of Champaign for the next five years. The City Council sets the vision for the City and adopts goals to reflect that vision and guide decision-making at all levels of City government. An important part of this process involves input from the community at large. The City Council is interested in obtaining input from citizens as to what the City’s priorities should be for the next two years.
The City Council has created a variety of methods for Citizens to provide feedback. They may provide feedback in the following three ways:
1) By completing the survey on the City’s website at www.ci.champaign.il.us/surveys/councilgoals
2) By sending an e-mail to CityCouncilGoals@ci.champaign.il.us
3) By mailing your comments to Mayor/City Council, 102 N. Neil Street, Champaign IL 61820.
The City Council has developed four general open-ended questions that will provide citizens with the opportunity to assess their satisfaction with City services and their priorities for the future. The questions are as follows:
1) What are the major City successes in the past year?
2) In five years, success for the City of Champaign means … (fill in your ideas)
3) Why do I choose to live in Champaign?
4) What are the major issues and projects that need to be addressed by the Mayor and City Council?
All of the comments must be received by August 31, 2007. The information will be compiled and forwarded to the City Council for consideration. If you would like a copy of the results of this survey, please include your e-mail or mailing address with your responses.
The City Council discussion on the City’s vision and goals will be held during two Special Study Sessions on September 24th and 25th. The goal setting process will culminate on November 6th when the City Council adopts the new goals.

Neighborhood Meetings:
The Champaign Police Dept. has scheduled a series of Neighborhood meetings to increase contact between citizens and the police, and allow people to air their concerns - and compliments.
Following is the press release and schedule for the first series of these meetings. I plan to attend the meetings at Clark Park and Hessel Park. I hope to see you there.
Press Release
CPD Neighborhood Tour
The Champaign Police Department will be conducting a series of neighborhood meetings beginning the week of August 20th. The meetings will be held at a park in the various beats and districts. Citizens will have an opportunity to stop by and meet Deputy Chief John Murphy and their respective District Commander. The meetings will be held from 5-7:30 PM.
The meetings will be informal and there is no specific presentation or agenda. They are scheduled as opportunities for citizens to provide input on their neighborhood concerns, ask questions, or simply stop by and say hello. The input from these meetings will be used by department command staff to deliver specific police resources based on the community’s priorities. Additionally, this is an opportunity for citizens to become more familiar with departmental operating procedures. Citizens should look for the yellow “Champaign Police” awning at the following locations and dates:
August 21: Clark Park
August 23: Citizens Park
August 28: Spaulding Park
August 30: Scott Park
September 4: Douglas Park
September 6: Powell Park
September 11: Hessel Park
September 13: Mullakin Park
A Final Note: I was, to put it mildly, rather inattentive to this website over the summer. That will be corrected. While I don't promise going from 0-daily from here on out, I do think weekly updates are reasonable and achievable. I will do my best to stay on that schedule. - Marci
